Player of the year awards
Awards are tonight I believe, who are we expecting to win?
Player of the year - Hughes (just has to be)
Best back - Wishart but Warbrick will come home strong and might pinch it
Best forward - Katoa but King, Grant and Loiero get honourable mentions
Rookie - If they go a true rookie - Valeepu otherwise it's between Howarth and Fa'alogo
Most Improved - Wishart, marginally ahead of Anderson
Members player of the year - Hughes
I expect the top 10 to look something like this:
1.Hughes
2.Katoa
3.Grant
4.Wishart
5.King
6.Warbrick
7.Loiero
8.Papenhuyzen
9.Coates
10.Howarth

No he just isn’t blind, it was fitting that in a Grand Final we were going along nicely until a dropped ball from Warbrick at 6-0 up followed by a missed read by him cost us a try and momentum that we never got back.
His 40 errors on the year was good enough for tied 4th in the NRL, the only Storm player in the top 30.
Your entitled to your opinion of course mate and fair enough. But geez, the rest of the world must be wrong.Papenhuyzen23 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 12:34 pm

Well deserved club award and little surprise named in kiwi team.
Yes he dropped a bomb in the gf under huge pressure, so did pap and coates and got outleaped by Martin resulting in try.
That try was his defensive error but geez, that is pretty much the slickest backline play of the season penrith executed on the big stage and nearly every other winger would of got caught out. The bullet from cleary, spin and tip on from alomati, lui ball to taruva running from angled depth was sublime and perfectly executed. Sometimes the attack is just too good and that play run at any backline over and over they are going to find tries. Unfortunately it's the wingers under the biggest threat and tries get scored out there all the time, they can't defend every single attack without error, particularly amazing plays where they've been deceived like that.
I thought he did enough good things in the game, (his carries out of back field and without going through everything one by one there were at least a couple of occasions his scramble defense saved us in field when he had no right to be there but made a huge effort- 1 was on the bomb papenhuyzen didn't defuse and I think it was lui who regathered and almost scored from memory), I thought the good things he did cancelled out the drop and misread and he at least had a decent game.
His back end to the year (from your own admission from memory) was immense regularly carrying 200+m and some real nice finishes, if he maintains that or improves he's amongst the best wingers in the game.
